Pocket bikes took a turn as they became extremely popular in Japan, and were quickly picked up by the European market. The Italians and the Dutch have since brought the sport of "Minimoto" racing to the forefront, increasing it's popularity, their safety and durability. This surge of interest has finally made its way into North America, and the demand for these little road racers is beginning to make it's mark. Although the North American scene has not embraced the same passion for organized racing as their European counterparts, they have sparked a general interest for the weekend warriors.

Why not? If you like bikes, or have been wondering about something you and your family can all take part in, look no further. Choose one based on the level of experience and start havin' fun. Whether you consider a gas powered or electric bike, there is no doubt that these mini sized motorcycles are going to provide you with countless hours of entertainment.green pocket bike

As with just about any motorized vehicle, there are choices that need to be made according to your likes and dislikes, as well as your riding experience. Small compact electric bikes offer lower speeds and a low ride height for the younger rider. Most are very simple in design, are easy to maintain and are tuff enough to handle a few bumps and as they begin to learn how to manage these new toys.

When we look at the older more experienced rider, the choices are many. Higher speeds, manual 3, 4 or  5 speed transmissions, disc brakes, electric starters, sticky tires....the list goes on. Looking to get your heart pumping, jump on and go for a ride. You will be pleasantly surprised at how well these mini pocket bikes can offer true exhilaration.

Choices, Choices

Which model you choose will depend primarily on your level of skill.  Here you will find various options in electric as well as gas engine models. They are available in everything from the smallest 48cc mini's to the much larger and more powerful 125cc-150cc Super Pocket Bikes.

Lets take a quick look into some of the current types available.

Electric:

With electric motors and no worries about fuels or lubricants, these are the easiest to maintain. Great bikes for the smaller member of the family, yet they have ample power for dad as well. These come in various sizes and styles to suite your style from the traditional mini bike, or pocket bike, to choppers!

Gas:

The balance of pocket bikes will need fuel. These also come in various sizes, motor horsepower's and styles.  48cc to 50cc engine sizes are the smaller ones found in the little bikes geared towards the kids. The larger more powerful ones are offered in 110cc to 150cc range. These are more than capable of picking up the front wheel if you have the nerve.

What Is So Great About These Mini Machines?

Those that are looking for a mini version of a motorcycle for their kids should take into consideration the true power that is behind the  gas powered versions. Most of these gas versions will generally be too fast for them. On the other hand, the electric versions offer quite a bit of fun, are not as powerful yet still offer all the excitement while providing them an easy learning curve. Lets not forget, that as much as we want to get our children involved, if they are properly supervised you and your kids will have memories to last a lifetime.

Although these mini machines were at once a novelty, something that was not practical or all that fun, today’s versions are much more enjoyable and provide the level of excitement that  can raise your blood level a little. In addition, there are countless clubs and organizations being formed around the country where races and competitions take place, and are becoming more popular every year.
